As soon as I had finished saying all that Jehovah commanded me to say, they grabbed me and shouted: You ought to be killed for this!
The priests and the prophets said to the leaders and to the people: This man deserves to be sentenced to death because he has spoken against our city. You heard him with your own ears.
When he came to Benjamin Gate, the captain of the guard there, whose name was Irijah, son of Shelemiah and grandson of Hananiah, arrested the prophet Jeremiah. He said: You are deserting to the Babylonians! Jeremiah answered: That is not true! I am not deserting to the Babylonians. But Irijah would not listen to him. Irijah arrested Jeremiah and took him to the officials.
Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the arrogant (egotistical) men said to Jeremiah: You are telling a lie! Jehovah our God has not sent you to say: 'You are not to enter Egypt to reside there. Baruch the son of Neriah is inciting you against us to give us over into the hand of the Chaldeans. They will put us to death or exile us to Babylon.
