Those who conspired against him were Zabad, son of the Ammonite woman Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of the Moabite woman Shimrith.
As soon as the kingdom was firmly in his grasp, he executed his servants who had murdered his father the king. However, he did not put their children to death, because-as it is written in the Law, in the book of Moses, where the Lord commanded-"Fathers must not die because of children, and children must not die because of fathers, but each one will die for his own sin."

His servants Jozabad son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer struck him down, and he died. Then they buried him with his fathers in the city of David, and his son Amaziah became king in his place.
