And, when they entered, they went up into the upper-room, where they were abiding; both Peter and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

And Jesus, passing on thence, saw a man, called Matthew, sitting at the tax-office, and He saith to him, "Follow Me." And, rising up, he followed Him. And it came to pass, as He was reclining at table in the house, behold, many tax-collectors and sinners, having come, were reclining with Jesus and His disciples.

And passing by, He saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax-office, and saith to him, "Follow Me." And, rising up, he followed Him. And it comes to pass that He reclines at table in his house, and many tax-collectors and sinners recline with Him and His disciples; for there were many, and they were following Him.

And, after these things, He went forth, and beheld a tax-collector, Levi by name, sitting at the tax-office; and He said to him, "Follow Me." And, having forsaken all, rising up, he followed Him. And Levi made a great reception for Him in his house; and there was a great multitude of tax-collectors and of others who were reclining at table with them.


There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathaniel of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples.

Philip finds Nathanael, and says to him, "We have found Him of Whom Moses in the law and the prophets wrote??esus of Nazareth, the Son of Joseph." And Nathanael said to him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip says to him, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and He saith to him, "Behold, an Israelite, indeed, in whom there is no guile!" read more.
Nathanael says to Him, "Whence knowest Thou me?" Jesus answered, and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathaniel answered Him, "Rabbi, Thou art the Son of God; Thou art the King of Israel."


Now there was a man of the Pharisees, whose name was Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night, and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that Thou hast come, as a Teacher, from God; for no one can do the signs which Thou art doing, unless God be with Him." Jesus answered, and said to him, "Verily, verily, I say to you, unless one be born anew, he cannot see the Kingdom of God." read more.
Nicodemus says to Him, "How can a man he born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb, and he born?" Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say to you, unless one be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. That which has been born of the flesh is flesh: and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said to you, ye must be born anew. The Spirit breatheth where He willeth; and you hear His voice, but know not whence He cometh, or whither He goeth: so is every one who has been born of the Spirit." Nicodemus answered, and said to Him, "How can these things be?" Jesus answered, and said to him, "Are you a teacher of Israel, and understand not these things?

Nicodemus says to them (he who came to Him before, being one of them), "Does our law judge a man, unless it first hear from him, and know what he does?" They answered, and said to him, "Are you also of Galilee? Search, and see that out of Galilee arises no prophet." read more.
