Pul king of Assyria came against the land. Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver to let him keep the kingdom. Menahem extracted the money from men of wealth in Israel. Every man gave fifty silver shekels to give to the king of Assyria. The king of Assyria turned back and did not stop in the land.
