Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part, and also his coat. The coat was without seam, wrought upon throughout. And they said one to another, "Let us not divide it: but cast lots who shall have it." That the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, 'They parted my raiment among them, and on my coat did cast lots.' And the soldiers did such things indeed.

And they smote him on the head with a reed, and spat upon him, and kneeled down and worshipped him. And when they had mocked him, they took the purple off him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out, to crucify him. And they compelled one that passed by, called Simon of Cyrene, which came out of the field, and was father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross. And they brought him to a place named Golgotha: which is, by interpretation, the place of dead men's skulls. And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh, but he received it not.
