And speak unto the children of Israel saying, 'If a man die and have no son, ye shall turn his inheritance unto his daughter. If he have no daughter, ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren. If he have no brethren, ye shall give his inheritance unto his father's brethren. If he have no father's brethren, ye shall give his inheritance unto him that is next to him of his kindred, and let him possess it. And this shall be unto the children of Israel an ordinance, and a law, as the LORD hath commanded Moses.'"

But Zelophehad the son of Hepher the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons save daughters. And these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah; which came before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the lords, saying, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren." And he gave them at the mouth of the LORD, an inheritance among the brethren of their fathers.
