Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him in front and behind, he chose from all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians. And the rest of the company he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother, and they put themselves in array against the sons of Ammon. And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shall help me, but if the sons of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee. Be of good courage, and let us act the man for our people, and for the cities of our God. And LORD do that which seems good to him. So Joab and the company that were with him drew near before the Syrians to the battle, and they fled before him.
