And LORD raised up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite. He was of the king's seed in Edom. For it came to pass, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the army was gone up to bury the slain, and had smitten every male in Edom (for Joab and all Israel remained there six months until he had cut off every male in Edom),

These also king David dedicated to LORD, with the silver and the gold that he carried away from all the nations: from Edom, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek. Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah smote eighteen thousand of the Edomites in the Valley of Salt. And he put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.
