And Jehovah stirred up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of the king's seed in Edom. Now it came to pass when David was in Edom, when Joab the captain of the host had gone up to bury the slain, after he had smitten every male in Edom (for Joab abode there six months with all Israel, until he had cut off every male in Edom),

Them also king David dedicated to Jehovah, with the silver and the gold that he had brought from all the nations: from the Edomites, and from the Moabites, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from the Amalekites. And Abishai the son of Zeruiah smote of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand. And he put garrisons in Edom; and all they of Edom became servants to David. And Jehovah preserved David whithersoever he went.
