But the king spared Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the Lord’s oath that was between David and Saul’s son Jonathan.
Swear now therefore to me by the Lord that you will not cut off my descendants after me and that you will not destroy my name out of my father's house. David gave Saul his oath; and Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.
