And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai of the sons of the giant, and they were subdued. And there was again war with the Philistines. And Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam. And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother killed him. These were born to the giant in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.


And there was great war against the Philistines all the days of Saul. And when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him to him.

Then Saul went up from following the Philistines, and the Philistines went to their own place.


And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod. And he built cities in [the country of] Ashdod, and among the Philistines. And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Meunim.
