And destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, He gave them their country for an inheritance. And after these things, about the space of four hundred and fifty years, He gave them judges till Samuel the prophet. And then they desired a king: and God gave them Saul the Son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for the space of forty years. And having removed him, He raised up David for their king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who will perform all my will. Of this man's seed, according to the promise, hath God raised up to Israel Jesus the Saviour: John having preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, Whom do ye take me to be? I am not He: but behold there cometh one after me, the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose. ---Men and brethren, children of the race of Abraham, and all those among you that fear God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. For the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and their rulers, not knowing Him, have indeed fulfilled the words of the prophets, which are read every sabbath-day, in condemning Him. And though they found in Him no capital offence, yet they desired of Pilate that He might be put to death. And when they had finished all things that were written concerning Him, they took Him down from the cross and laid Him in a tomb. But God raised Him from the dead: and He was seen for many days by those that came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people. And we bring you good tidings, that the promise made unto the fathers God hath fulfilled unto us their children, having raised up Jesus again: as it is also written in the second psalm, "Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee." And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to the place of corruption, He hath said thus, "I will give you the sure mercies of David." Wherefore he saith also in another place, Thou wilt not suffer thine holy One to see corruption. Now David having served his own generation according to the will of God, fell asleep, and was laid with his fathers, and saw corruption: but He whom God raised, did not see corruption. Be it known therefore unto you, brethren, that through Him is preached unto you the remission of sins: and by Him every one that believeth is justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Beware therefore, least what is spoken in the prophets come upon you, "Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and vanish; for I do a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though any one should declare it unto you." As they went out of the synagogue of the Jews, the Gentiles desired that these words might be spoken to them on the following sabbath. And when the synagogue was broken up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who addressing themselves to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

And he arose and went; and behold a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, and her high-treasurer, who had come to Jerusalem to worship, was returning, and as he sat in his chariot, was reading the prophet Esaias: and the Spirit said to Philip, Go near and join thyself to this chariot. heard him reading the prophet Esaias, and said, Dost thou understand what thou readest? And he said, How can I, unless some one guide me? and he desired Philip to come up and sit with him. And the portion of scripture, which he was reading, was this, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before it's shearer is dumb, so He opened not his mouth: in his humiliation his judgement was taken away, and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken away from the earth." And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom doth the prophet say this? of himself, or of some other person? Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this scripture, preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came to a certain water: and the eunuch said, See here is water, what hindereth me from being baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he ordered the chariot to stop: and they both went down to the water, Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

And Philip coming to the city of Samaria, preached Christ unto them. And the people unanimously attended to the things which were spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he wrought: for impure spirits crying with a loud voice came out of many that were possessed by them; and many paralytic and lame persons were cured. read more.
And there was great joy in that city. But there was before in the city a man named Simon practising magic and bewitching the people of Samaria, giving out that he was some great person. Whom they all greatly regarded, from the lest to the greatest, saying, This man is as the great power of God. And they were attentive to him, because he had for a considerable time astonished them by his magic arts. But as they believed Philip, preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women;

"And it shall come to pass in the last days (saith God) that I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: yea and on my servants and on my handmaids, in those days, I will pour out of my Spirit, and they also shall prophesy. And I will give prodigies in the heaven, and signs upon the earth; blood, and fire, and smoky vapour. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and illustrious day of the Lord come. And whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord, shall be saved." Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you, by miracles, and prodigies, and signs, which God wrought by Him in the midst of you, (as ye yourselves also know,) Him being given up by the determinate counsel and fore-knowlege of God ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain. Whom God hath raised up again, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it. For David saith concerning Him, "I set the Lord always before me, for He is at my right hand, that I should not be moved: therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; and my flesh shall rest in hope, that Thou wilt not leave my soul in the invisible state, nor suffer thine holy one to see corruption. Men and brethren, allow me to speak with freedom to you concerning the patriarch David, that he is dead and buried, and his sepulchre is among us to this day. Therefore being a prophet; and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Messiah, to sit on his throne; foreseeing this he spake of the resurrection of Christ, when he said, that his soul was not left in the invisible state, nor did his flesh see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up from the dead, of which we all are witnesses. Therefore being exalted by the right hand of God, and having received of the Father the promise of the holy Spirit, He hath poured forth this gift, which ye now see and hear.
