Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, how that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt. He said to Moses, "I, Jethro, your father-in-law, am coming to you, with your wife and her two sons with her." Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and bowed and kissed him. They asked each other of their welfare, and they came into the tent. Moses told his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, all the hardships that had come on them on the way, and how the LORD delivered them. He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to the LORD.

They said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD, our God, lest he fall on us with pestilence, or with the sword."
