Altar » Mosaic commandments prescribing the construction of
You shall make an altar of earth for me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your cattle. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you. If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of cut stones; for if you lift up your tool on it, you have polluted it. Neither shall you go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness may not be exposed to it.'
There you shall build an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones: you shall lift up no iron on them. You shall build the altar of the LORD your God of uncut stones; and you shall offer burnt offerings thereon to the LORD your God: and you shall sacrifice peace offerings, and shall eat there; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God.
Then Joshua built an altar to the LORD, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, "an altar of uncut stones, on which no man has touched with an iron tool." They offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
