Then the people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord that he would take away the snakes from us." So Moses prayed for the people.
He threatened to destroy them, but Moses, his chosen one, interceded with him and turned back his destructive anger.
The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron: "Separate yourselves from among this community, that I may consume them in an instant." May blessing rest on Joseph's head, and on the top of the head of the one set apart from his brothers. May the firstborn of his bull bring him honor, and may his horns be those of a wild ox; with them may he gore all peoples, all the far reaches of the earth. They are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.
