At that very time some Pharisees came, and said to him, "Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you." And he said to them, "Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course.'

When Pilate heard this, he asked if the man was a Galilean. And when he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who also was in Jerusalem at that time. Then he questioned him with many words, but he gave him no answer. The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him. And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him; then, dressing him in a gorgeous robe, he sent him back to Pilate. That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for before this they had been at enmity with each other. Pilate then called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, and said to them, "You have brought this man to me as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. And behold, having examined him in your presence, I have found no guilt in this man concerning those charges which you make against him; neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Behold, nothing deserving death has been done by him;
