And Hushai said to Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel has given this time is not good. And Ahithophel was the king's counselor. And Hushai the Archite was the king's friend.
And it came to pass, that, when David came to the top [of the ascent], where God was worshipped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat torn, and dirt upon his head. And David said to him, If thou pass on with me, then thou will be a burden to me, but if thou return to the city, and say to Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king.
