And Jehovah gave the people favour in the eyes of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt in the eyes of Pharaoh's bondmen, and in the eyes of the people.


He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.

And Jehovah said to Moses, Stretch out thy hand toward the heavens, that there may be darkness in the land of Egypt so that one may feel darkness. And Moses stretched out his hand toward the heavens; and there was a thick darkness throughout the land of Egypt three days:

And the sons of Dan: Hushim. And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, And Guni, And Jezer, And Shillem. These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter; and she bore these to Jacob: all the souls were seven. All the souls that came with Jacob to Egypt, that had come out of his loins, besides Jacob's sons' wives: all the souls were sixty-six. And the sons of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt, were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob that came to Egypt were seventy.

With seventy souls thy fathers went down into Egypt; and now Jehovah thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.

And Joseph sent and called down to him his father Jacob and all his kindred, seventy-five souls.


And he said to Abram, Know assuredly that thy seed will be a sojourner in a land that is not theirs, and they shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years. But also that nation which they shall serve I will judge; and afterwards they shall come out with great property.

And God spoke thus: His seed shall be a sojourner in a strange land, and they shall enslave them and evil entreat them four hundred years; and the nation to which they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God; and after these things they shall come forth and serve me in this place.


And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, besides children.

And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, at the end of the wilderness.
