Afflictions of the The Wicked » Are ineffectual of themselves, for their conversion
Yet the people have not turned to him who struck them, neither have they sought Yahweh of Armies.
"I have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
I struck you with blight, mildew, and hail in all the work of your hands; yet you didn't turn to me,' says Yahweh.

and you have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, "My son, don't take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him;
Yet the people have not turned to him who struck them, neither have they sought Yahweh of Armies.
"I have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
"I struck you with blight and mildew many times in your gardens and your vineyards; and your fig trees and your olive trees have the swarming locust devoured: yet you haven't returned to me," says Yahweh.
and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores. They didn't repent of their works.
Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

O Yahweh, don't your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.
I said, "Just fear me. Receive correction, so that her dwelling won't be cut off, according to all that I have appointed concerning her." But they rose early and corrupted all their doings.

Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is profane and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. For wickedness burns like a fire. It devours the briers and thorns; yes, it kindles in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke. Through the wrath of Yahweh of Armies, the land is burnt up; and the people are the fuel for the fire. No one spares his brother. One will devour on the right hand, and be hungry; and he will eat on the left hand, and they will not be satisfied. Everyone will eat the flesh of his own arm: Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
