and I remembered the saying of the Lord, 'John baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the holy Spirit.'

I am baptizing you in water in token of your repentance, but he who is coming after me is stronger than I am, and I am not fit to carry his shoes. He will baptize you in the holy Spirit and in fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clean up his threshing-floor, and store his wheat in his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with inextinguishable fire." But John dissuaded him, and said, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"

And this was his message: "After me there is coming one stronger than I am, one whose shoes I am not fit to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you in water, but he will baptize you in the holy Spirit." It was in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

As all this aroused people's expectations, and they were all wondering in their hearts whether John was the Christ, John said to them all, "I am only baptizing you in water, but someone is coming who is stronger than I am, whose shoes I am not fit to untie. He will baptize you in the holy Spirit and in fire. He has his winnowing fork in his hand, to clean up his threshing-floor, and store his wheat in his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with inextinguishable fire." read more.
So with many varied exhortations he would preach the good news to the people, but Herod the governor, whom he condemned because of Herodias, his brother's wife, and all the wicked things Herod had done, crowned them all by putting John in prison. Now when all the people were baptized and when Jesus also after his baptism was praying, heaven opened


"John's baptism was a baptism in token of repentance," said Paul, "and he told the people to believe in him who was to follow him, that is, in Jesus." When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, and when Paul laid his hands on them, the holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in foreign tongues and with prophetic inspiration.
