After eight days the baby was circumcised. He was called by the name, Jesus. (Jesus: Jehovah is salvation) This was the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. According to God's Law they must offer a sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. There was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout. He was waiting for God to save Israel. God's Holy Spirit was working in him. Holy Spirit revealed to him that he would not die before he saw the Christ of God. Under the power of the spirit he came to the temple. The parents brought in the child Jesus, that they obey the custom of the law. He received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said: Let your servant depart according to your word in peace. My eyes have seen your salvation. That which you prepared before the peoples. It is a light of revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel. Jesus' father and mother were amazed at the things that were spoken concerning him. Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother: This child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel and for a sign that is spoken against. A sword will pierce through your mind that the thoughts of many hearts will be disclosed. Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher was a very old prophetess. She had been a widow eighty-four years. She never left the temple. She worshipped and fasted with supplications day and night. Even up to that time she gave thanks to God and spoke to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
