And his disciples asked of him, saying, "Why then say the scribes, that Elijah must first come?" Jesus answered, and said unto them, "Elijah shall first come, and restore all things. And I say unto you, that Elijah is come already: And they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they lusted. In likewise shall also the son of man suffer of them."

He answered and said unto them, "Elijah verily shall first come and restore all things. Also the son of man, as it is written, shall suffer many things, and shall be set at nought. Moreover, I say unto you, that Elijah is come, and they have done unto him whatsoever pleased them, as it is written of him."

And they asked him, "What then? Art thou Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." Art thou that prophet? And he answered, "No." Then said they unto him, "What art thou, that we may give an answer to them that sent us? What sayest thou of thy self?" He said, "I am the voice of a crier in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah." read more.
And they which were sent, were of the Pharisees. And they asked him, and said unto him, "Why baptisest thou then, if thou be not Christ, nor Elijah, neither a prophet?"
