John wore a camel-hair garment with a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. He was preaching: "Someone more powerful than I will come after me. John was a burning and shining lamp, and for a time you were willing to enjoy his light.

Before He came to public attention, John had previously proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. Then as John was completing his life work, he said, 'Who do you think I am?
