Jesus Christ » History of » Verifies the prophecy of isaiah concerning the unbelieving jews
Though he had done so many signs before them, yet they did not believe in him; that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: "Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: read more.
"He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them." Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke of him. Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And he who sees me sees him who sent me. I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me should not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will condemn him on the last day. For I have not spoken on my own authority; but the Father who sent me gave me a command, what to say and what to speak. And I know that his command is eternal life. Whatever I say, therefore, I say just as the Father has told me."

I know that you are Abraham's descendants, yet you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you. I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your Father." They answered him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the things Abraham did, read more.
but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. You do the deeds of your father." They said to him, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father God." Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded and came forth from God; I have not come of my own accord, but he sent me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you are not able to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and you want to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? He who is of God hears the words of God; the reason you do not hear them is that you are not of God."

Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and testify to what we have seen; but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
Then Jesus said to them, "A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." When Jesus had said this, he departed and hid himself from them.
