And when Jesus was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, there came to Him a woman with an alabaster-box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head as He was at table: but when his disciples saw it, they were some of them provoked at it, and said, Wherefore is this waste? read more.

But Jesus, knowing what passed, said to them, Why do ye give the woman uneasiness? for she has done a good office to me: (seeing ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always:) for in pouring this ointment on my body, she has embalmed me for my burial. Verily I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached, in the whole world, what she hath done shall also be spoken of for a memorial of her.

Therefore they made Him a supper there, and Martha waited at table, but Lazarus was one of them that sat down with Him. And Mary taking a pound of ointment of spikenard of great value, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped them with her hair; and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. read more.
Therefore said one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, who was about to betray Him, Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence and given to the poor? He said this, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the common purse he carried what was put into it. Jesus therefore said, Let her alone, she hath reserved this as for the day of my burial. For the poor ye have always with you, but me ye have not always.
