Jesus went with them to Gethsemane. He said to his disciples: Sit here while I go over there and pray. He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with him. He was sorrowful and very troubled. He told them: My heart is deeply grieved to the point of death. Stay with me and watch. read more.
Then he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed: My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will. When he came to the disciples, they were sleeping. He said to Peter: Could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray continually that you do not enter into temptation! A second time he went away and prayed, saying: Father, if this cannot pass away, except I drink it, your will be done. He returned to find them sleeping again, for their eyes were heavy. He went away to pray a third time, saying the same words. After returning to the disciples, he said: Do you sleep now and take your rest? The hour is here and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Arise, let us go; the man who betrays me is here. As he spoke, Judas, one of the twelve, followed by a crowd carrying swords and spears, approached him. The chief priest and elders of the people had sent them. He that betrayed him gave them a sign. He told them: The one I kiss is he. Take him. He went directly to Jesus and said: Hail, Rabbi, and kissed him. Jesus told him: Do that for which you came. They laid hands on Jesus, and captured him.

He went forward a little ways and fell on the ground to pray. He prayed that if it were possible the hour might pass from him. He said: Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. Take this cup from me. Even so not what I will, but what you will. He returned to find them sleeping. He said to Peter, Simon why do you sleep? Could you not watch for one hour? To avoid temptation watch and pray. The spirit truly is willing but the flesh is weak. Again he went away and prayed, and spoke the same words. He came and found them asleep again. They did not know what to say to him. He came a third time and said to them: Sleep and take your rest. It is enough the hour has come. Look, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners! Rise up and let us go. He that betrays me is near. Suddenly, as he spoke, Judas one of the twelve arrived. A great crowd with swords and spears were with him. They were from the chief priests, scribes and elders. He who betrayed him gave them a sign. He told them the one I kiss is the one to capture and take away safely. When he arrived he went straight to him and said: Master and kissed him. They grabbed him and took him away.

He went to the Mount of Olives as was his custom and the disciples also followed him. When he arrived he said to them: Pray that you do not enter into temptation. He went a short distance from them and kneeled down and prayed. read more.
He prayed: Father if it is your will remove this cup from me, nevertheless not my will, but your will be done. An angel came to him and gave him strength. (possible spurious text) He was in agony and earnestly prayed. His sweat became, as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground. When he finished his prayer he went to the disciples, and found them sleeping because of their sorrow. He said: Why do you sleep? Arise and pray that you do not enter into temptation. As he spoke a crowd followed Judas, one of the twelve. They came to him. Judas approached Jesus and kissed him. Jesus said to him: Judas, do you betray the Son of man with a kiss? Those near him saw what happened and asked: Lord shall we strike them with a sword?

Peter was still in the courtyard when one of the High Priest's servant women came by. When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said: You were with Jesus of Nazareth. He denied it. I do not know and I do not understand what you are talking about, he answered. He went out into the passageway. read more.
The servant woman saw him there and told bystanders, He is one of them! Peter denied it again. Later the bystanders accused Peter again saying: You cannot deny that you are one of them, because you, too, are from Galilee. Then Peter said: I swear I am telling the truth! May God punish me if I lie! I do not know the man you are talking about! Then a rooster crowed. Peter remembered what Jesus said: Before the rooster crows two times, you will deny me three times. He broke down and cried.

As he spoke, Judas, one of the twelve, followed by a crowd carrying swords and spears, approached him. The chief priest and elders of the people had sent them. He that betrayed him gave them a sign. Jesus told him: Do that for which you came. They laid hands on Jesus, and captured him. Those who take up the sword will perish by the sword. Do you think I cannot ask my Father for help? He would send me more than twelve legions of angels. How then will the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen this way? That very hour Jesus said to the people, Have you come out to take me with swords and sticks as if I were a thief? You did not take me when I taught in the Temple daily. This has taken place so that the writings of the prophets will come true. Then all his disciples left him.

Jesus said: Have you come out as against a thief with swords and sticks to take me? I was with you every day in the Temple teaching and you did not take me. This is done so that the scriptures will be fulfilled. They all left him, and fled. A young man followed him. He was wearing a linen cloth over his naked body. They tried to grab him. But they got a hold of the linen cloth and he fled naked. They led Jesus away to the high priest. The chief priests, elders and scribes came together with him. Peter followed him at a distance. Simon Peter drew the sword he had, struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. Jesus said to Peter: Put the sword in the sheath. Brothers, the Scripture needed to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who guided those who arrested Jesus. He was numbered among us, and shared in this ministry. This man obtained a field with the reward of his wickedness; and falling headlong, he burst open and all his intestines spilled out. It became known to all who live in Jerusalem that the field was called the field of blood, in their language; Akeldama. It is written in the book of Psalms: 'Let his habitation be made desolate and let no man dwell there. Let another take his office.' (Psalm 109:8) Someone must join us as a witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. He must be one of the men who were in our group during the time that the Lord Jesus traveled about with us. This should be from the time John preached his message of baptism until the day Jesus was taken up from us to heaven. One who was with us from the baptism of John, to the day that he was received up from us must become a witness with us of his resurrection. They proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. They prayed: You O Jehovah, know the hearts of all men. Show us which of these men you choose. Which of these men should assume this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.
