And when he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, "Is that the way you answer the high priest?" Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken wrongly, bear witness to the wrong; but if I have spoken rightly, why do you strike me?"
When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you, as you have given him authority over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to all those you have given him. In the first book, O Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach, until the day when he was taken up to heaven, after he had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. To these he also presented himself alive after his suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

And he preached, saying, "After me comes One who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
John bore witness of him and cried out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'"
I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire."
John answered them all, "I baptize you with water; but one mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."
John answered them, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. It is he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie." This took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. read more.
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks before me, for he was before me.' I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel." And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God." Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples. And he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God." Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples. And he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"
Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and people came and were baptized. For John had not yet been put in prison. Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew over purifying. read more.
And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified behold, he is baptizing, and all are going to him." John answered, "A man can receive only what is given to him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but I have been sent before him. And as John was completing his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'

When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. But I do as the Father commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.

Then Jesus said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. read more.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. But he who is a hireling and not the shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them. He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep, and my sheep know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock and one shepherd. For this reason my Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.
