A discussion arose among them as to which of them would be the greatest. But Jesus knew the question that was in their minds and he took a child and made him stand by his side, and said to them, "Whoever welcomes this child on my account is welcoming me, and whoever welcomes me, welcomes him who has sent me. For it is the lowliest among you all who is really great."

So Jesus, seeing that they meant to come and carry him off to make him king, retired again to the hill by himself.

Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came up to him with her sons, bowing low, to ask a favor of him. He said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Give orders that these two sons of mine sit one at your right and one at your left, when you are king!" But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking for! Just at that time the disciples came up and asked Jesus, "Who is really greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" He called a child to him and had him stand among them, and he said, "I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven at all.

So those who were present asked him, "Master, is this the time when you are going to re-establish the kingdom for Israel?" He said to them, "It is not for you to know times and dates which the Father has fixed by his own authority,

And those in front and those behind shouted, "God bless him! Blessed be he who comes in the Lord's name! Blessed be the reign of our father David which is coming! God bless him from on high!"


And he immediately made his disciples get into the boat and cross before him to the other side while he dismissed the crowds. After he had dismissed them he went up the hill by himself to pray. And when evening came on he was there alone, but the boat was by this time a long way from shore, struggling with the waves, for the wind was against them. read more.
Toward morning he went out to them, walking on the sea. And the disciples saw him walking on the sea, and they were terrified and said, "It is a ghost!" And they screamed with fear. But Jesus immediately spoke to them and said, "Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid." Peter answered, "If it is you, Master, order me to come to you on the water." And he said, "Come!" And Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and went to Jesus. But when he felt the wind he was frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Master, save me!" Jesus immediately stretched out his hand and caught hold of him, and said to him, "Why did you waver? You have so little faith!" When they got into the boat, the wind went down. And the men in the boat fell down before him and said, "You are certainly God's Son!"

He immediately had his disciples get into the boat and cross before him to the other side toward Bethsaida, while he was dismissing the crowd. When he had taken leave of the people he went up the hill to pray. When evening came on, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and he was alone on shore. read more.
And he saw that they were straining at the oars, for the wind was against them, and toward morning he went out to them, walking on the sea, and was going to join them. They saw him walking on the sea, and thought it was a ghost and screamed aloud, for they all saw him and were terrified. But he immediately spoke to them and said, "Take courage, it is I. Do not be afraid." Then he went up to them and got into the boat. And the wind fell. And they were perfectly beside themselves, for they had not understood about the loaves, but their minds were blinded.

When the people saw the signs that he showed, they said, "This is really the Prophet who was to come into the world!" So Jesus, seeing that they meant to come and carry him off to make him king, retired again to the hill by himself. But in the evening his disciples went down to the sea read more.

When they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and approaching the boat, and they were terrified. But he said to them, "It is I; do not be afraid!" Then as soon as they consented to take him into the boat, the boat was at the shore they had been trying to reach.
