Then a dispute rose among them, which of them should be greatest. And Jesus knowing the thought of their heart, took a child and set him by Him, and said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this little child for my sake, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth Him that sent me. For he that is lest among you all, shall be great.

Being therefore come together they asked Him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? And He said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or seasons, which the Father hath reserved in his own power.

And they that went before, and they that followed, cried out, saying, Hosanna, blessed be He that cometh in the name of the Lord: blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that is coming in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest.


And presently after Jesus obliged the disciples to get into the ship, and to go before Him to the other side, while He dismissed the multitudes: and when He had dismissed them, He went up to a hill in private to pray. And in the evening He was there alone. Now the ship was by this time in the midst of the sea, and violently tossed by the waves; for the wind was contrary: read more.
but in the fourth watch of the night Jesus came to them walking on the sea: and when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were affrighted and said, It is an apparition; and they cried out for fear: but Jesus immediately spake to them, saying, Take courage, it is I, be not afraid. Then Peter answered Him and said, Lord, if it be thou, command me to come unto thee upon the waters. And He said, Come. And Peter went down from the ship and walked upon the waters to go to Jesus: but seeing the wind boisterous, he was afraid, and beginning to sink cried out, Lord, save me. And Jesus, immediately stretching forth his hand, laid hold of him, and saith to him, O man of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? So they got into the ship, and the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped Him, saying, Thou art indeed the Son of God.

And immediately He obliged his disciples to get into the ship, and to go before Him to the other side to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the people: and when He had sent them away, He retired into a mountain to pray. And when the evening was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and He alone upon the land: read more.
and He saw them labouring in rowing; (for the wind was contrary:) and about the fourth watch of the night He cometh to them walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. But they seeing Him walking upon the water, thought it was an apparition, and cried out: for they all saw Him and were frighted. And He immediately spake to them, and saith, Be of good courage, it is I, be not afraid. And He went up into the ship to them, and the wind ceased, and they were exceedingly amazed in themselves, and wondered: not considering the miracle of the loaves, for their heart was stupified.

Therefore the people when they had seen the miracle that Jesus wrought, said, this is certainly the Prophet who was to come into the world. Jesus therefore knowing that they would come, and take Him by force if possible, to make Him king, retired again to the mountain Himself alone. They desired therefore to take Him into the ship: and immediately the vessel was at the land to which they were going.

And the devil taking Him up into an high mountain, shewed Him all the kingdoms of the world in an instant, and said to Him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for it is committed to me, and I give it to whomsoever I will.
