Now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-Arba; the great man among the Anakim. And the land rested from war.

For he had dominion over all on this side the river, from Tiphsah as far as Gazah, over all the kings on this side the river; and he had peace on all sides round about. Forty years was I grieved with the generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways;

And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

And the children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came into an inhabited land: they ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.

No foot of man shall pass through it, nor shall foot of beast pass through it, nor shall it be inhabited, forty years.
