Luke 22:1

Now the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the Passover, was drawing near;

Luke 22:2

and the high priests and scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were fearing the people.

Luke 22:3

And Satan entered into Judas, the one called Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve;

Luke 22:4

and, departing, he consulted with the high priests and captains, how he might deliver Him up to them.

Luke 22:5

And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

Luke 22:6

And he agreed, and was seeking an opportunity to deliver Him up to them, in the absence of a multitude.

Luke 22:7

And the day of unleavened bread came, on which the passover must be sacrificed.

Luke 22:8

And He sent Peter and John, saying, "Going forth, make ready for us the passover, that we may eat."

Luke 22:9

And they said to Him, "Where dost Thou wish that we make ready?"

Luke 22:10

And He said to them, "Behold, when ye have entered into the city, there will meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house into which he enters.

Luke 22:11

And ye shall say to the master of the house, The Teacher saith to you, 'Where is the guest-chamber, where I may eat the passover with My disciples?'

Luke 22:12

And he will show you a large upper room furnished, there make ready."

Luke 22:13

And, going away, they found as He had said to them; and they made ready the passover.

Luke 22:14

And, when the hour came, He reclined at table, and His apostles with Him.

Luke 22:15

And He said to them, "With desire I desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

Luke 22:16

for I say to you, I will in no wise eat it, until it be fulfilled in the Kingdom of God."

Luke 22:17

And, having taken a cup, and giving thanks, He said, "Take this, and share it among yourselves;

Luke 22:18

for I say to you, that I will in no wise drink, henceforth, of the product of the vine, until the Kingdom of God shall come."

Luke 22:19

And, taking bread, and giving thanks, He broke, and gave to them, saying, "This is My body, which is given for you; this do in remembrance of Me."

Luke 22:20

And the cup, in like manner, after supper, saying "this cup is the new covenant in My blood, which, in your behalf, is being poured out.

Luke 22:21

But, behold, the hand of him who is betraying Me is with Me on the table;

Luke 22:22

because the Son of Man, indeed, is going according as it has been determined; but woe to that man through whom He is betrayed!"

Luke 22:23

And they began to inquire together among themselves, which of them it was, who was about to perpetrate this thing.

And there arose also a contention among them as to which of them seemed to be greatest.

Luke 22:25

But He said to them, "The kings of the gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those having authority over them are called 'Benefactors.'

Luke 22:26

But ye are not so; but let the greater among you become as the younger, and he who leads as he who serves.

Luke 22:27

For who is greater, he who reclines at table, or he who serves? Is not he who reclines? But I am in the midst of you as One Who serveth.

Luke 22:28

But ye are they who have remained with Me in my temptations;

Luke 22:29

and I appoint to you, as My Father appointed to Me, a Kingdom,

Luke 22:30

that ye may eat and drink at My table in My Kingdom; and ye shall sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Luke 22:31

"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked for you, to sift you as the wheat;

Luke 22:32

but I prayed for you, that your faith fail not; and, when once you have turned again, establish your brethren."

Luke 22:33

And he said to Him, "Lord, I am ready to go with Thee, both to prison and to death."

Luke 22:34

And He said, "I tell you, Peter, a cock will not crow to-day, until you thrice deny that you know Me."

Luke 22:35

And He said to them, "When I sent you forth without purse, and wallet, and sandals, did ye lack anything?" And they said, "Nothing."

Luke 22:36

And He said to them, "But now let him who has a purse take it, and likewise a wallet; and let him who has not a sword sell his garment, and buy one.

Luke 22:37

For I say to you, that that which has been written must be accomplished in Me, 'And He was reckoned with lawless ones;' for that which relates to Me has an end."

And they said, "Lord, behold, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough."

And, going out, He went, according to His custom, to the mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him;

Luke 22:40

and, having come to the place, He said to them, "Pray, that ye enter not into temptation."

Luke 22:41

And He was parted from them about a stone's throw; and, kneeling down, He prayed,

Luke 22:42

saying, "Father, if Thou art willing, remove this cup from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Thine, be done."

Luke 22:43

And there appeared to Him an angel from Heaven, strengthening Him.

Luke 22:44

And, being in an agony, He was praying more earnestly. And His sweat became, as it were, large drops of blood falling down upon the ground!

Luke 22:45

And, arising from prayer, and coming to the disciples, He found them sleeping for grief,

Luke 22:46

and said to them, "Why are ye sleeping? Rising up, pray, that ye enter not into temptation."

Luke 22:47

While He was yet speaking, behold, a multitude, and he who is called Judas, one of the twelve, was coming before them; and he drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.

Luke 22:48

And Jesus said to him, "Judas, do ye betray the Son of Man with a kiss?"

Luke 22:49

And those about Him, seeing what was about to follow, said, "Lord, shall we smite with the sword?"

Luke 22:50

And a certain one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his right ear.

Luke 22:51

But Jesus, answering, said, "Suffer ye thus far." And, touching the ear, He healed him.

Luke 22:52

And Jesus said to the high priests and captains of the temple and elders, who came up against Him, "Did ye come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?

Luke 22:53

When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched not forth your hands against Me; but this is your hour, and the power of darkness."

Luke 22:54

And, seizing Him, they led Him away, and brought Him into the house of the high priest. But Peter was following afar off.

Luke 22:55

And, they having kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and having sat down together, Peter was sitting in the midst of them.

Luke 22:56

And a certain maid, seeing him sitting by the light, and looking intently at him, said, "This man also was with Him."

Luke 22:57

But he denied, saying, "I do not know Him, woman."

Luke 22:58

And, after a little while, another, seeing him, said, "You also are one of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am not."

Luke 22:59

And, about one hour having intervened, a certain other was confidently insisting, saying, "Of a truth this one also was with Him; for he also is a Galilaean."

Luke 22:60

But Peter said, "Man, I know not what you are saying." And immediately, while he was yet speaking, a cock crowed.

Luke 22:61

And, turning, the Lord looked upon Peter: and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He said to him, "Before a cock shall crow to-day, you will thrice deny Me."

And, going forth without, he wept bitterly.

Luke 22:63

And the men who were holding Jesus were mocking Him, beating Him;

Luke 22:64

and, blindfolding Him, they were questioning Him, saying, "Prophesy who he is that smote Thee."

Luke 22:65

And many other things they said against Him, reviling Him.

Luke 22:66

And, when it was day, the eldership of the people was gathered together, both high priests and scribes; and they led Him away into their Sanhedrin, saying,

Luke 22:67

"If Thou art the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, ye will not believe.

Luke 22:68

And, if I question you, ye will not answer.

Luke 22:69

But henceforth the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God."

Luke 22:70

And they all said, "Art Thou, therefore, the Son of God?" And He said to them, "Ye say that I am."

Luke 22:71

And they said, "Why do we still have need of testimony? for we ourselves heard from His own mouth!"
