Then the whole body of them arose and led him to Pilate. And they began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man perverting our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king." So Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered him, "It is as you say." read more.
Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no crime in this man." But they were urgent, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee to this place." When Pilate heard this, he asked if the man was a Galilean. And when he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who also was in Jerusalem at that time.

Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they did not enter the Praetorium themselves, so that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover. So Pilate went out to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this man?"

When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. And they bound him, and led him away and delivered him to Pilate the governor.

Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" So Jesus said to him, "It is as you say." But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he made no answer. Then Pilate said to him, "Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?" read more.

Pilate said to them, "Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law." The Jews said to him, "It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death." This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken would be fulfilled, showing by what death he was going to die. Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Jesus answered, "Do you say this on your own, or did others say it to you about me?" Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me; what have you done?" Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now my kingship is not from here." Pilate said to him, "You are a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say what I ama king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice." Pilate said to him, "What is truth?" After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again, and told them, "I find no crime in him.
