When the chief priests and officers saw him, they cried out, "Crucify him, crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "You take him and crucify him, for I find no fault in him."
But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he made no answer. Then Pilate said to him, "Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?" But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge; so that the governor wondered greatly.
And the inscription of the charge written against him read: THE KING OF THE JEWS.
One of the criminals who were hanged there hurled insults at him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!"
Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. The chief priests of the Jews then said to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but, 'This man said, I am King of the Jews.'"read more.
Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."
Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no crime in this man."
Pilate went out again, and said to them, "See, I am bringing him out to you, that you may know that I find no crime in him."
