At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath, and his disciples were hungry and began to pluck ears, and to eat. But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said to him, Behold, thy disciples do what is not permitted to do upon the Sabbath. But he said to them, Have ye not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those with him, read more.

Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread. And having answered, he said to them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God, because of your tradition? For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and thy mother, and, He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him perish in death. read more.

Is it permitted on the Sabbath to do good, or to do harm, to save life, or to kill? And having looked around on them all, he said to him, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did, and his hand was restored whole as the other. But they were filled with fury, and deliberated with each other what they might do to Jesus.
