Jesus entered a boat and crossed over to his own city (Capernaum), on the other side of the lake. A man on a bed, a paralytic, was brought to Jesus. Seeing their faith Jesus said to the sick man: Have courage; your sins are forgiven. Some of the scribes said among themselves: This man has no respect for God. read more.
Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said: Why are your thoughts evil? Which is easier, to say, your sins are forgiven, or to say, get up and walk? So that you know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins [he turned and spoke to the paralytic or paralyzed man]: Get up, take your bed and go to your house. He arose, and departed to his house. But when the people saw it, they marveled, and glorified God who had given such authority to men. Jesus moved on. He then saw Matthew seated at his work collecting taxes. He said to him: Follow me. He rose and followed him. Jesus was a dinner guest at Matthew's house. Many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw it, they asked his disciples: Why does your Teacher eat with the tax collectors and sinners? When he heard it, he said: People who are well do not have need of a physician. The sick do. You should learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice'; for I came, not to call the righteous, but sinners. The disciples of John asked: Why do your disciples not fast? They frequently fasted, and so did the Pharisees. Jesus replied: Should the wedding guests mourn and also celebrate with the groom? The days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them. Then they will fast. Why patch an old garment with cloth that has not been shrunk? The patch shrinks and pulls away from the old cloth leaving a big hole. Neither do men put new wine in old wineskins. The skins burst and the wine is lost. They put new wine in fresh wineskins, and both are preserved. While he was speaking, an official came and paid him respect. He said: By now my daughter must be dead. Come and lay your hand on her and she will live. Jesus and his disciples got up and followed him. A woman who had a hemorrhage (chronic flow of blood) for twelve years came behind him. She touched the border of his garment. She said to herself: If I touch his garment, I will be healed. Jesus turned to see her and said: Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well. The woman was healed at that time. Jesus went into the official's house and saw flute players and the crowd making a lot of noise. He told them to leave: For the girl is not dead, but sleeps. They all scornfully laughed at him. The people were sent away. He went to the girl, took hold of her hand, and she got up. The news about this spread to all the land.

They arrived at Capernaum. The collectors of the two-drachma tax asked Peter: Does your master make payment of the Temple tax?

Jesus and his followers traveled to Capernaum. On the day of worship Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. They were astonished at his doctrine, for he taught with authority and not like the scribes. Suddenly in the synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit. He screamed: read more.
What do you want with us Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the Holy One of God! Jesus rebuked the spirit by saying: Be quiet, and come out of him! The evil spirit shook the man hard, gave a loud scream, and came out of him. The people were all amazed and questioned. What is this? What new doctrine is this? He has authority over the unclean spirits, and they obey him. His fame spread to the entire country of Galilee. Jesus and his disciples, including James and John, left the synagogue and went directly to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever. At once they told Jesus about her. He took her by the hand and helped her sit up. The fever suddenly left. So she got up and prepared a meal for them. That evening at sunset many sick and demon-possessed people were presented to Jesus. A huge crowd of people from all over Capernaum gathered outside to watch. Jesus healed many who were sick with various diseases. He cast out many demons. Knowing them he would not permit the demons to speak. Early in the morning, long before daybreak, Jesus awoke and went into the wilderness to pray. Later Simon and the others went out to find him. They informed him: Everyone is asking for you. He replied: We must go to other towns. I will preach to them too. I came for this purpose. He went to Synagogues in every part of Galilee, preaching and driving out evil spirits. A man with leprosy knelt in front of Jesus and begged to be healed. If you want to, you can make me well, he said. Moved with compassion Jesus touched him. I want to, he said. Be healed! Instantly the leprosy disappeared and man was healed. Jesus sent him away and warned him. Go directly to the priest and let him examine you. Do not talk to anyone along the way. Take the offering the Law of Moses requires for those healed of leprosy. That way everyone will have proof of your healing. But the man gave a public account of his healing everywhere he went. Soon crowds surrounded Jesus and he could not enter a town publicly. He had to stay in secluded places and people continued to come to him.

He entered the Synagogue again. There was a man there whose hand was withered. They watched to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath day. Then they might have something against him. He said to the man: Get up and come forward. read more.
Then he asked the Pharisees, Is it right to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil? Is it right to give life or to put to death? But they said nothing. He looked at them and was angry. He was also sad on account of their hard hearts. He said to the man: Stretch out your hand. He stretched it out and his hand was healed. The Pharisees went away and immediately conspired with the Herodians. They tried to decide how they might destroy him.

After he taught the people he went to Capernaum. A centurion's servant, who was highly regarded by him, was sick and at the point of death. When he heard about him he contacted Jesus through the Jewish elders. He asked him to come and save his servant. read more.
They came to Jesus and earnestly pleaded with him saying: He is worthy and you should do this for him. He loves our nation and he also built our synagogue for us. Jesus went with them. As he approached the house, the centurion sent friends to him saying, Lord do not trouble yourself. I am not worthy that you should come under my roof. I am also not worthy to come to you. Just say the word, and my servant will be healed. I also am a man with much authority. I am in charge of soldiers and say to this one go and he goes and to another I say come and he comes. I tell my servant to do this and he does it. Jesus heard this and marveled at him. He turned to the crowd and said, I tell you I find no greater faith in Israel. When the messengers returned to the house they found the servant in good health.

Jesus returned to Cana of Galilee where he turned the water into wine. There was a nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. He heard that Jesus came from Judea into Galilee. He went to him and urged him to come see his son. His son was near death. Until you see signs and wonders you will not believe, Jesus said. read more.
The nobleman said: Sir, come or my child would die. Jesus replied: Go your way. Your son lives! The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. His servants met him as he returned and said: Your son is alive! He asked them about the hour he was healed. They said: Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. The father knew that it was the same hour in which Jesus said: Your son lives. He and his entire household believed.

They boarded a boat to travel over the sea to Capernaum. It was dark and Jesus had not yet come to them. A great wind made the sea rise. They rowed about four miles and saw Jesus walking on the sea. He came close to the boat. They were afraid. read more.
He said to them: It is I. Do not be afraid! They eagerly brought him into the boat. The boat soon arrived at the land where they were going. The next day the crowd stood by the side of the sea. Jesus entered the only boat while his disciples went away alone. Small boats from Tiberias came there to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord gave thanks. When the crowd saw that Jesus and his disciples were not there they got into the boats and traveled to Capernaum seeking Jesus. They found him on the other side of the sea and said: Rabbi (Teacher) when did you come here?

He said these things in the synagogue when he taught in Capernaum.

then this is what I will do to you: I will terrorize you with disease and fever. You will suffer from eye problems and depression. You will plant your crops and get nothing because your enemies will eat them.

Jehovah will strike you with infectious diseases, with swelling and fever. He will send drought and scorching winds to destroy your crops. These disasters will be with you until you die.

His father was sick in bed. He suffered from fever and dysentery. Paul went to him, prayed, placed his hands on him, and made him well.
