"They were told, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.' But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife on any ground, except unfaithfulness, makes her commit adultery, and anyone who marries her after she is divorced commits adultery.

And he said to them, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against his former wife, and if a woman divorces her husband and marries another man, she is an adulteress."

Do you not know, brothers??or I am speaking to men who know what law is??hat law governs a man only as long as he lives? For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if he dies, the marriage law no longer applies to her. So if she marries another man while her husband is alive, she is called an adulteress, but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and can marry someone else without being an adulteress.

Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not try to separate." They said to him, "Then why did Moses command us to draw up a written divorce-notice and give it to her?" He said to them, "It was on account of your perversity that Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, but it was not so at the beginning. I tell you that whoever divorces his wife on any ground but her unfaithfulness, and marries another woman, commits adultery." The disciples said to him, "If that is a man's relation to his wife, it is better not to marry!" He said to them, "It is not everyone who can accept that, but only those who have a special gift. For some are incapable of marriage from their birth, and some have been made so by men, and some have made themselves so for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. Let him accept it who can."
