Jesus moved on. He then saw Matthew seated at his work collecting taxes. He said to him: Follow me. He rose and followed him.
After that he met a tax collector named Levi sitting at his place of business. He told him: Follow me. He gave up everything and followed him.
Again he went to the seaside and all the people followed him. So he taught them. He saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, seated at the place where taxes were collected. He said to him: Come with me. And he got up and went with him.

Many people came to him. They brought those who were lame, crippled, blind, mute, and many other people. They laid them down at his feet and he healed them.
Thousands of people in the crowd were gathered together so much that they bumped into one another. He said to his disciples: First of all, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
