Just before morning, Jesus walked to them on the water.

They rowed about four miles and saw Jesus walking on the sea. He came close to the boat. They were afraid.

They all saw him and were troubled. Suddenly he spoke to them: Be of good cheer. It is I do not fear.


Jesus sent the disciples in a boat to the other side of the sea. He stayed there until he sent the crowd away. After sending the crowd away, he went to the mountain to pray by himself. Just before morning, Jesus walked to them on the water. When they saw him walking on the water they were troubled. It is a spirit (apparition) (illusion)! they screamed! They cried out with fear. At once Jesus said: It is I; do not be afraid. Peter said to him: Lord, if it is you, give me the order to come to you on the water. He said: Come. Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. When he noticed how strong the wind was, he became afraid. He began to sink, and cried: Help me Lord! Suddenly, Jesus put out his hand and took hold of him, and said: You of little faith, why were you in doubt? The wind went down when they got into the boat. Those on the boat loved him intensely, saying: Truly, you are the Son of God!

Jesus made his disciples hurry into a boat to cross to Bethsaida ahead of him. Then he sent the crowd away. After he left he went to the mountain to pray. He was on the shore at the beginning of evening and the boat was in the midst of the sea. read more.
He saw that they were tired of rowing for the wind was against them. It was the fourth watch of the night. He walked on the sea and was about to pass them. When they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a spirit (an illusion) and screamed. They all saw him and were troubled. Suddenly he spoke to them: Be of good cheer. It is I do not fear.
