Elijah » Antitype of john the baptist
And he will go before Him in the spirit and Power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient unto the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people made ready for the Lord.
And if you wish to receive it, he is Elijah, who is to come.
And they said, Some, John the Baptist; and some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
And His disciples asked Him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that it behooves Elijah to come first? And Jesus responding said to them, Elijah indeed comes, and will restore all things: but I say unto you, that Elijah has already come, and they recognized Him not, but did unto Him so many things as they wished; thus the Son of man is also about to suffer by them.
He responding said to them, Elijah indeed having first come, restores all things: and how has it been written in reference to the Son of man, that he should suffer many things, and be set at naught? But I say unto you, that Elijah indeed has come, and they did unto him so many things as they wished, as has been written in reference to him.
They asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he says, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he responded, No. Then they said to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those having sent us. What do you say concerning yourself? And those having been sent were of the Pharisees. And they asked him, and said to him, Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor that prophet?

The blind are looking up, and the lame are walking about, the lepers are being cleansed, and the deaf are hearing, the dead are being raised, and the poor are having the gospel preached unto them: and blessed is he, whosoever may not be offended in me. And they departing, Jesus began to speak to the multitudes concerning John, What went you out in the wilderness to see? a reed shaken by the wind? But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold those wearing soft raiment are in the houses of the kings. But what went you out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet: for this is he, concerning whom it has been written, Behold, I send my messenger before my face, who will prepare thy way before thee. Truly I say unto you, Among those having been born of women there has not risen a greater than John the Baptist: nevertheless the least in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of the heavens suffers violence, and the violent are taking it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied till John. It is like little children sitting in the market-place, and calling to their comrades, and saying, We piped unto you, and you did not dance; we mourned unto you, and you did not lament. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a gluttonous and wine-drinking man, a friend of publicans and sinners. Wisdom is truly justified by her children.

And at that hour He healed many of their diseases and ailments and evil spirits; and He conferred on many blind people the power to see.
