Matthew 14:1 (show verse)

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus, and said to his servants,

Matthew 14:2 (show verse)

"This is John the Immerser; He arose from the dead; and therefore do the powers work in Him."

Matthew 14:3 (show verse)

For Herod, having laid hold of John, bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.

Matthew 14:4 (show verse)

For John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."

Matthew 14:5 (show verse)

And, wishing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because they were holding him as a prophet.

Matthew 14:6 (show verse)

But, on a birthday celebration of Herod, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.

Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.

Matthew 14:8 (show verse)

And she, urged on by her mother, says, "Give me here upon a plate the head of John the Immerser."

Matthew 14:9 (show verse)

And the king, though grieved, yet, because of the oaths and of those sitting at the table with them, ordered it to be given;

and, having sent, he beheaded John in the prison;

Matthew 14:11 (show verse)

and his head was brought upon a plate, and given to the damsel; and she brought it to her mother.

And his disciples, coming, took up the corpse, and buried it; and, coming, they told Jesus;

Matthew 14:13 (show verse)

And Jesus, having heard it, withdrew thence, in a boat, into a desert, apart. And the multitudes, hearing of it, followed Him on foot from the cities.

And Jesus, coming forth, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion over them, and healed their sick.

And, evening coming on, the disciples came to Him, saying, "The place is desert, and the time already passed by: dismiss the multitudes, that, having gone into the villages, they may buy food for themselves."

Matthew 14:16 (show verse)

But Jesus said to them, "They have no need to go away. Give ye them to eat."

Matthew 14:17 (show verse)

And they say to Him, "We have nothing here except five loaves and two fishes."

Matthew 14:18 (show verse)

And He said, "Bring them here to Me."

Matthew 14:19 (show verse)

And, having commanded the multitudes to recline on the grass??aking the five loaves and two fishes??ooking up into the heaven, He blessed; and, having broken, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.

Matthew 14:20 (show verse)

And they all ate, and were satisfied; and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.

And those eating were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Matthew 14:22 (show verse)

And straightway He constrained the disciples to enter into a boat, and to go before Him to the other side, while He should dismiss the multitudes.

And, having dismissed the multitudes, He went up into the mountain, apart, to pray; and, evening coming on, He was there alone.

But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves; for the wind was contrary.

Matthew 14:25 (show verse)

And, in the fourth watch of the night, He came to them, walking on the sea.

And the disciples, seeing Him walking on the sea, were troubled, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for fear.

But Jesus straightway spake to them, saying, "Be of good cheer. It is I; be not afraid."

Matthew 14:28 (show verse)

And Peter, answering Him, said, "Lord, if it be Thou, bid me come to Thee on the water."

Matthew 14:29 (show verse)

And He said, "Come." And, going down from the boat, Peter walked upon the water, and came to Jesus.

Matthew 14:30 (show verse)

But, seeing the wind, he was frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!"

Matthew 14:31 (show verse)

And immediately Jesus, stretching forth His hand, took hold of him, and saith to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"

And, when they went up into the boat, the wind ceased.

Matthew 14:33 (show verse)

And these in the boat worshiped Him, saying, "Truly Thou art God's Son."

Matthew 14:34 (show verse)

And, passing over, they came upon the land to Gennesaret.

Matthew 14:35 (show verse)

And, recognizing Him, the men of that place sent into all that region round about, and brought to Him all who were sick;

Matthew 14:36 (show verse)

and they were beseeching Him, that they might only touch the border of His garment; and as many as touched it were made thoroughly well.
