Matthew 16:1 (show verse)

And the Pharisees and Sadducees, coming near, tempting Him, asked Him to show them a sign from the heaven;

Matthew 16:2 (show verse)

and He, answering, said to them, "When it is evening, ye say, 'It will be fair, for the heaven is red;'

Matthew 16:3 (show verse)

and in the morning, 'Today, a tempest; for red is the overcast heaven.' The face of the heaven, indeed, ye know how to discern, but the signs of the times ye can not discern.

Matthew 16:4 (show verse)

An evil and adulterous generation is seeking after a sign; and no sign will be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet." And, leaving them, He departed.

And the disciples, coming to the other aide, forgot to take bread.

Matthew 16:6 (show verse)

And Jesus said to them, "Take heed, and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."

Matthew 16:7 (show verse)

And they were deliberating among themselves, saying, "We took no bread."

Matthew 16:8 (show verse)

And Jesus, knowing it, said, "Why are ye deliberating among yourselves, O ye of little faith, because ye have no bread?

Do ye not yet perceive, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

Matthew 16:11 (show verse)

How is it that ye do not perceive that I spake not to you concerning bread? but beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?

Matthew 16:12 (show verse)

Then they understood that He did not bid them beware of the leaven of the bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

And Jesus, having come into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, was asking His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that the Son of Man is?"

And they said, "Some say John the Immerser; and others, Elijah; and others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."

Matthew 16:15 (show verse)

And He saith to them, "But who do ye say that I am?"

Matthew 16:16 (show verse)

And Simon Peter, answering, said, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Matthew 16:17 (show verse)

And Jesus, answering, said to him, "Happy are you, Simon Bar-Jonah; because flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but My Father Who is in Heaven.

Matthew 16:18 (show verse)

And I also say to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My assembly, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

Matthew 16:19 (show verse)

I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven; and whatsoever you shall bind on the earth shall have been bound in Heaven, and whatsoever you shall loose on the earth shall have been loosed in Heaven."

Then He charged the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ.

Matthew 16:21 (show verse)

From that time began Jesus to show to His disciples, that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and high-priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised up.

Matthew 16:22 (show verse)

And Peter, taking Him aside, began to rebuke Him, saying, "God be merciful to Thee! this shall not be to Thee."

Matthew 16:23 (show verse)

But, turning, He said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! you are a stumbling-block to Me; because you are not thinking of the things of God, but the things of men."

Matthew 16:24 (show verse)

Then said Jesus to His disciples, "If any one wishes to come after Me, let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me;

Matthew 16:25 (show verse)

for whosoever wishes to save his soul shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose his soul for My sake shall find it;

Matthew 16:26 (show verse)

for what will a man be profited, if he gain the whole world, and suffer damage as to his soul? or what will a man give as an exchange for his soul?

Matthew 16:27 (show verse)

For the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then will He render to each one according to his work.

Matthew 16:28 (show verse)

Verily I say to you, there are some of those standing here, who will not taste of death, till they see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom."
