And a very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And they said, "The Lord has need of it." And they brought it to Jesus, and they threw their garments on the colt and set Jesus on it. And as he went along, many spread their garments on the road. And, as he was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, saying, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!" And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples." He answered, "I tell you, if these keep silent, the stones would cry out." And when he drew near and saw the city he wept over it, saying, "If you had known, even you, this day, the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, and dash you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another in you; because you did not know the time of your visitation."

"Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt." His disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. For this reason the people went to meet him, because they heard that he had done this sign. The Pharisees then said to one another, "You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, The world has gone after him!"
