And when he was come into his house, he took a knife and laid hold on his concubine and divided her, together with her bones into twelve pieces, and sent them into all the borders of Israel.
Then Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will prepare yourselves to go before the LORD to the war and will all pass the Jordan armed before the LORD until he has driven out his enemies from before him and the land is subdued before the LORD, then afterward ye shall return and be guiltless before the LORD and before Israel, and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.
And he took a yoke of oxen and hewed them in pieces and sent them throughout all the borders of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whoever does not come forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent. And when he numbered them in Bezek, the sons of Israel were three hundred thousand and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
