Thematic Bible: Often cruel in exacting debts

And my heart within myself ruled, and I rebuked the nobles and the rulers, and said to them, You exact interest, each one from his brother. And I held a great gathering against them. And I said to them, According to our ability we have redeemed our brothers, the Jews who were sold to the nations. And will you even sell your brothers? Or shall they be sold to us? And they were silent and did not find an answer. And I said, What you do is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?

They drive away the ass of the fatherless; they take the widow's ox for a pledge. They turn the needy out of the way; the poor of the earth hide themselves together. They reap his fodder in the field; and they gather the grapes of the wicked. They lodge the naked without clothing, and give no covering in the cold. They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for lack of shelter. They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge from the poor.

But the same servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. And he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me what you owe. And his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, Have patience with me and I will pay you all. And he would not, but went and cast him into prison until he should pay the debt.
