As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so the Son of man must also be lifted up. Everyone who has an active faith in him may have everlasting life. For God loved the world so much, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever has an active faith in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Perishing » Those that perish
For the preaching of the stake is foolishness to those who perish. It is the power of God to us who are saved. This is the wisdom of God that the world through its wisdom did not come to know God. God was well pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. Indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom. We preach Christ impaled. It is a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the nations! To those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, it is Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
