Then He said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be great earthquakes, and, in various places, famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. And, before all these things, they will lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up into the synagogues and prisons, being brought before kings and governors for My name's sake. It shall result to you for a testimony. Settle it, therefore, in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand how to make a defense; for I will give you a mouth, and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or gainsay. But ye will be delivered up even by parents, and brothers, and kindred, and friends; and they will put some of you to death. And ye will be hated by all for My name's sake. And a hair of your head shall in no wise perish.

And, as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; that every one who believes in Him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that every one who believes on Him should not perish, but have eternal life;
Perishing » Those that perish
For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing, foolishness; but to those who are being saved, it is the power of God. For it has been written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning will I set aside." Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? read more.
For, since in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom knew not God, God was pleased through the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe; seeing that both Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified; to the Jews, a stumbling-block, and to the gentiles foolishness; but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
