When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou art a man given to appetite. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful food.
Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: For better it is that it be said to thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldst be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thy eyes have seen.
If any of them that believe not invites you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go; whatever is set before you, eat, asking no question on account of conscience.
