Forty years long I was grieved with this generation and said, It is a people that err from the heart, who have not known my ways;

Our fathers did not understand thy wonders in Egypt; they did not remember the multitude of thy mercies but rebelled by the sea, even at the Red sea. Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known. He reprehended the Red sea also, and it was dried up, so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness. read more.
And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left. Then they believed his words; they sang his praise. They became rash. They soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel: They gave themselves over to lust in the wilderness and tempted God in the desert. And he gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul. Then they envied Moses in the camp and Aaron the saint of the LORD. The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan and covered the company of Abiram. And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked. They made a calf in Horeb and worshipped the molten image. Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eats grass. They forgot the God of their saving health, who had done great things in Egypt, wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things upon the Red sea. Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath lest he should destroy them. And they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his word: But murmured in their tents and did not hearken unto the voice of the LORD. Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness, to overthrow their seed also among the Gentiles, and to scatter them in the lands. They also joined themselves unto Baalpeor and ate the sacrifices for the dead. Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions; and the plague broke in upon them. Then Phinehas stood up and executed judgment, and so the plague was stayed. And that was counted unto him for righteousness from generation to generation for evermore. They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: Because they provoked his spirit to rebel, and he spoke it with his lips. They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them: But were mingled among the Gentiles and learned their works. And they served their idols, which were a snare unto them. Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood. Thus they were defiled with their own works and went a whoring with their own inventions.

And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. And I will break the pride of your stronghold, and I will make your heaven as iron and your earth as bronze. And your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits. And if ye walk contrary unto me and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins. And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of demons, and the hold of every unclean spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all the Gentiles have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the power of her delicacies. read more.
And I heard another voice from the heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye not be partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto the heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Reward her even as she rewarded you and pay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has given thee to drink, give her double. As much as she has glorified herself and lived deliciously, give her that much torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Therefore, shall her plagues come in one day, death and mourning and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire; for strong is the Lord God who judges her.

Yet the LORD testified against Israel and against Judah, by all the prophets and by all the seers, saying, Turn from your evil ways and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers and which I sent to you by the hand of my slaves the prophets. Notwithstanding, they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, who had never believed in the LORD their God. And they rejected his statutes and his covenant that he made with their fathers and his testimonies which he testified against them, and they followed vanity and became vain and went after the Gentiles that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them. read more.
And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God and made themselves molten images, even two calves, and made groves and worshipped all the host of heaven and served Baal; and they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire and used divination and enchantments and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. Therefore, the LORD was very angry with Israel and removed them out of his sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah only. But not even Judah kept the commandments of the LORD their God; to the contrary, they walked in the statutes of Israel which they themselves had made. Behold, he smote the rock that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? Therefore the LORD heard this and was wroth, so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel because they had not believed God, nor had they trusted in his saving health; and he commanded the clouds of above and opened the doors of the heavens and caused manna to rain upon them to eat and gave them wheat of the heavens. Man did eat the food of the strong; he sent them food to the full. He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven, and by his power he brought in the south wind. He rained flesh also upon them as dust and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations. So they did eat and were well filled; for he gave them their own desire; they were not estranged from their lust. But while their food was yet in their mouths, the wrath of God came upon them and slew the fattest of them and smote down the chosen of Israel. For all this they sinned still and did not give him credit for his wondrous works. Therefore he consumed their days in vanity and their years in tribulation. When he slew them, then they sought him, and they returned and enquired early after God.

Good; because of their unbelief they were broken off, but thou by faith art standing. Do not be highminded, but fear that if God did not forgive the natural branches, neither shall he forgive thee.
