And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

Thus said the LORD unto me; Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem; And say unto them, Hear ye the word of the LORD, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates:


That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.


In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.
