She said to the men: I know Jehovah has given you the land and the terror of you has fallen on us. All the inhabitants of the land are afraid of you. We heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red sea for you when you came out of Egypt. And what you did to the two kings of the Amorites that were on the other side of Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. As soon as we heard these things we became discouraged. No man had courage because of you. Jehovah your God is God in heaven above and on earth below. I pray that you will swear to me by Jehovah, since I have showed you kindness that you will also show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token(sign) (pledge of truth); That you will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brothers and sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death. The men answered her: Our life for yours, if you do not reveal our business. It will be, when Jehovah has given us the land. We will deal kindly and truly with you. Then she let them down by a cord through the window for her house was upon the town wall. She lived on the wall. She said: Go to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you. Hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers return and afterward go your way.
